My first reveal is a bus stop poster which features a scribbly type of sketch (from the film) with the words “Do you know this one girl with hair like this”. The color scheme and layout mimics that of the first Scott Pilgrim comic book. I used fonts similar to those on the book cover, I did so to capture the essence of the book, hoping true fans of the series would notice the similarities. I found that the starburst shape in the center made the image in the middle the center of attention and really draws the eye in. The call to action is to visit the website www.xxxxxxx.ca (ooh, so mysterious), this is a little bit of an easter egg which represents the seven deadly exes that must be defeated in the film.
The second advertisement gives out more detailed information about the mystery girl, revealing her name, Ramona, and listing a phone number as well as the website url again. The phone number is the actual one that appears in the film. If someone was to visit the website, they would find details about the film as well as a section where they can insert the phone number and unlock something fun and mysterious. I used black and white sections from the comics (with easter eggs for fans: bread makes you fat, vegan police, didn’t you get my email) to relate it back to the story and added some pops of color to grab attention. I used different paper textures to give the illusion of stacked paper, and this also plays into the fact that its book related.
This is what the home page for www.xxxxxxx.ca would look like. It reveals the film details and prompts users to purchase tickets to the movie. There is also a section at the bottom where you can enter Ramona's phone number for a surprise.
This is a "screenshot" of what would happen if users were to enter the phone number to unlock the mysterious thing. The mysterious thing is a Scott Pilgrim Vs the World game where you can fight the evil exes and save your manic pixie dream girl (that's Ramona).
The final advertisement is a large billboard which finally reveals Ramona’s face, some details about her, and mentions that she has 7 evil exes that must be defeated. The ad also features the Scott Pilgrim Vs the World logo with the release date for the film. The url for the site it also listed so that viewers can purchase tickets online and play the game if they can find the code.
